*Currently taking new clients and provide free consultation Hi there and welcome to Mind Trek Counseling! My name is Maya and I’m a mental health therapist providing services to all adult clients.
If you have been feeling this way,
If you have been to many therapists and feel like you are just another nameless face, I see you. If other providers have told you, you are too much, I see you. If your family or loved ones have made you feel worthless, I see you. If you have always felt different or you just didn't fit in, I see you. I am here to help anyone, whomever you are. If you are struggling with trauma, narcissistic relationships, alcohol or drug addiction, self-harm or self-abuse I will hold space for you. I will help you develop the tools to feel seen and recover for the long term. Nothing is a quick fix and therapy is the long game.
I specialize in helping people who have always felt like the black sheep/the truth tellers in their family find their voice and their individual value. I am an ally of the queer, and marginalized communities as well as a champion for women's rights. I welcome you. I am here to listen to your story and provide trauma-informed care.
I am a straightforward therapist who will always tell you the truth. I am transparent, candid, and empathetic. I pride myself on being extremely comprehensive in assessing your situation and taking the time to hear all the details and see your whole picture. There isn't a life story that is too much. Come as you are.
My Education and Training Background
I gained my Master Degree from Case Western Reserve University and got licensed as Licensed Social Worker (LSW). I am also a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), and a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LCDCIII) with over nine years of clinical experience specializing in trauma recovery, co-occurring disorders, and systems-involved care. My academic background includes focused study in gender and power dynamics, and I specialize in adult co-occurring disorders, applying an integrative and intersectional approach to healing and advocacy.
My experience spans forensic psychiatric hospitals, where I conducted competency and malingering assessments; felony court systems, where I facilitated trauma-focused groups and designed dual-diagnosis treatment plans for individuals on probation; and human trafficking, mental health, and drug court programs. I have provided individual therapy in correctional settings, led a dual-diagnosis unit in an inpatient psychiatric hospital, and supported survivors of high-control groups, such as cults and abusive wilderness programs.
For nearly a decade, I have worked with military veterans, integrating trauma-informed interventions tailored to their psychological and cultural needs. Additionally, I am deeply committed to serving marginalized communities, including LGBTQIA+ individuals, through inclusive and culturally attuned care. I also incorporate Equine-Assisted Therapy to promote nervous system regulation, relational healing, and somatic awareness.
From rural and low-income communities to concierge residential placements for high-risk adults, my work bridges clinical rigor with human dignity. I approach every therapeutic relationship with curiosity, clarity, and deep respect for the complexity of human experience—supporting clients not only in symptom relief but in reclaiming their narratives, agency, and meaning.
My Top Specialties
PTSD
My therapeutic focus and expertise center on post-traumatic stress disorder, where I integrate a tapestry of evidence-based modalities—including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure (PE), Trauma-Focused CBT, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, Somatic Experiencing, Trauma-Informed Care, and Animal-Assisted Therapy—to catalyze profound, sustainable healing. By weaving together these empirically supported approaches, I guide clients through the alchemy of reframing trauma memories, cultivating present-moment resilience, and re-establishing agency over their own narratives. My creative application of dynamic metaphors, personalized mind–body exercises, and tailored cognitive interventions ensures each treatment plan is as distinctive as the individual’s journey, fostering not only symptom reduction but also the reclamation of personal strength, safety, and meaning. I’m also very passionate at working with some specific traumas including: Sexual Trauma, Medical Trauma, Military Trauma, Human Trafficking, Cult Survivors, and Troubled Teen Industry Survivors.
ADDICTION
In treating addiction, I employ a robust framework of cognitive-behavioral therapies, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention strategies, and contingency management to address the complexities of substance use disorders. Structured cognitive-behavioral sessions help clients identify and restructure maladaptive thought patterns that drive cravings, while motivational interviewing fosters intrinsic motivation by honoring each person’s autonomy and strengths. Complemented by harm-reduction principles and psychoeducation, I collaborate with clients to develop sustainable coping skills, reinforce positive behavioral changes, and create clear, personalized pathways to recovery and self-efficacy.
ADHD
My approach to ADHD is rooted in neuroscience-informed, strengths-based interventions that empower clients to harness their unique cognitive wiring. I integrate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for ADHD, mindfulness-based strategies, executive function coaching, and behavioral activation techniques to address challenges with focus, impulsivity, and emotional regulation. Recognizing that ADHD extends beyond attention deficits, I work with clients to reframe self-perceptions, structure their environments for success, and cultivate systems that align with their natural rhythms. By blending psychoeducation, habit formation science, and motivational enhancement strategies, I help clients transform perceived limitations into strategic advantages. Sessions may include time-management scaffolding, sensory regulation tools, and cognitive restructuring to mitigate procrastination, overwhelm, and self-criticism. For adults navigating late diagnoses, I incorporate narrative therapy and identity work to reconcile past struggles with newfound self-awareness.
LGBTQIA+
My work with the LGBTQIA+ community is rooted in affirmative, inclusive, and adaptive therapeutic practices that celebrate diversity and honor each client’s lived experience. Using an intersectional lens, I integrate minority stress theory, narrative therapy, gender-affirmative approaches, dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills, and family systems interventions to support clients navigating coming out, identity exploration, and systemic challenges. By fostering a brave and validating space, I empower clients to craft their own narratives of resilience, embrace their authentic selves, and build affirming support networks—all while challenging heteronormative and cisnormative pressures.
VETERANS
My specialization in veterans’ trauma—across all branches, with particular focus on special operations—addresses the unique challenges of combat-related PTSD, moral injury, and reintegration stress. I apply evidence-based therapies such as Prolonged Exposure, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), all adapted with sensitivity to military culture and camaraderie. By honoring service-related values, addressing moral injury, and facilitating peer-supported growth, I help veterans translate their discipline and resilience into post-service strengths, fostering renewed purpose and connection beyond the battlefield.
