Jun Sun, LSW, MSW
*Currently taking new clients Hi! My name is Jun (Dongjun) Sun, and a warm welcome to Mind Trek Counseling! Taking this first step to seek support is a significant one, and I'm so glad that you're considering this journey.
If you are feeling overwhelmed by depression, anxiety, or the profound disorientation of culture shock and life transitions, please know that you are not alone. My passion lies in walking alongside individuals who are navigating emotional pain, processing trauma, or experiencing significant shifts in their identity. I believe that within you already exists a deep well of strength, and my goal is to provide a supportive space to help you reconnect with it, develop healthy coping skills, and process your experiences to move toward a more fulfilling life.
A Unique Perspective on Healing
My approach to therapy is shaped by a distinctive educational path that allows me to care for the whole person. I hold a Master of Social Work from Case Western Reserve University, where I received specialized training in trauma-informed care. What uniquely informs my practice is my undergraduate background in medicine, completed in China. This combination allows me to integrate a biopsychosocial perspective into our work, meaning I am mindful of the complex interplay between your physical well-being, emotional health, and social environment. This holistic view ensures that our work together is comprehensive and deeply personalized.
What to Expect in Our Sessions
In our work together, my first priority is to cultivate a safe, non-judgmental, and collaborative space where you feel heard and understood. I blend evidence-based techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma Informed Care, Culturally Sensitive Approach , Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy to tailor our sessions to your specific needs. This means we will not only work on building practical coping skills to manage symptoms but also focus on your inherent strengths to foster meaningful and positive change. We will explore your challenges while always keeping your goals at the center of our work.
You Have Already Taken a Brave Step
By reading this, you are already doing something brave by considering support. You do not have to face your challenges by yourself. Whether you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply seeking a compassionate guide to help you navigate life's complexities, I am here to walk alongside you.
When you feel ready to begin, I would be glad to support your journey toward healing and growth.

My top three specialties are Depression & Anxiety, Trauma/PTSD, and Culture & Identity .
Depression & Anxiety
Depression and Anxiety are not just "in your head"; it is a whole-body experience that can drain your energy, disrupt your sleep, and create a cycle of negative thinking that feels inescapable. My background in medicine gives me a nuanced understanding of these multifaceted symptoms.
Biologically, we will discuss the role of lifestyle factors like sleep, nutrition, and movement, and how small changes can create positive shifts in your mood and energy.
Psychologically, using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), we will work to identify and gently challenge the negative thought patterns that fuel depression and anxiety, helping you develop a more compassionate inner dialogue.
Socially, through Motivational Interviewing, we will explore what truly matters to you and build small, manageable steps to help you re-engage with activities and relationships that once brought meaning and joy.
Trauma/PTSD
Trauma impacts the entire person—it can alter your nervous system, shape your thoughts, and affect your relationships. My specialized training in trauma-informed care means our work will always be paced by your need for safety and empowerment.
Biologically, we will incorporate grounding and somatic techniques to help you feel safe in your body and manage the physical echoes of trauma.
Psychologically, we will process your experiences gently, at a pace you control, to reduce their emotional charge.
Socially, we will focus on rebuilding a sense of trust and connection, recognizing how trauma can disrupt your ability to feel secure with others.
My approach is fundamentally strength-based. I will help you reconnect with the resilience that has allowed you to survive, transforming it into a foundation for thriving.
Culture & Identity
Navigating a new culture or a major life transition is more than just an emotional challenge; it can manifest as physical exhaustion, changes in sleep or appetite, and a profound sense of disorientation. My own experience living within different cultural systems allows me to appreciate this complex interplay firsthand.
Biologically, we can explore how the stress of change affects your body and develop practical strategies for rest and regulation.
Psychologically, we'll gently explore your sense of identity and belonging, addressing feelings of grief, isolation, or overwhelm.
Socially, we will identify ways to build a supportive community and develop coping skills that honor both your heritage and your new environment.
Using a culturally sensitive and solution-focused approach, we will work together to reduce the feeling of being overwhelmed and help you build a grounded, resilient sense of self.
