*taking new clients in person and online Hi there, and welcome to Mind Trek Counseling! I'm Alanna, and I'm so glad you're here. Taking the first step toward therapy can feel overwhelming, and reaching out for support takes courage.

I provide individual therapy for adults (18+) navigating trauma, PTSD, anxiety, OCD, depression, ADHD & it’s co-occurring issues, identity exploration, and major life transitions. Life's experiences can shape how we see ourselves, our relationships, and the world around us. You may be carrying the weight of past experiences, struggling with anxiety or intrusive thoughts, feeling stuck in guilt or shame, or simply wanting to better understand yourself.

Whatever brings you to therapy, you deserve a space where you feel heard, supported, and accepted. My approach is trauma-informed, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and tailored to your unique experiences, strengths, and goals. Together, we'll work toward healing, self-understanding, and meaningful, lasting change.

My Background

I hold a Master of Social Work (MSW) with a clinical specialization from Michigan State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Windsor. I am a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) through the Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, and Marriage and Family Therapist Board. Here are some of my research and practice experiences if they help you relate:

  • I provided trauma-informed individual therapy for adults with PTSD using Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), receiving weekly consultation from Dr. Kathleen Chard, a co-developer of CPT and one of the world's leading PTSD treatment experts, to ensure treatment fidelity.

  • I contributed to a large-scale, nationwide study on postpartum depression prevention, conducting clinical screenings and structured diagnostic assessments with new and expecting parents across the United States — experience that deepened my special interest in perinatal mental health.

  • I served as a crisis counselor with Crisis Text Line and volunteered with Kids Help Phone and the Women's Center of Greater Lansing, providing real-time crisis intervention and advocacy for individuals experiencing suicidality, trauma, and interpersonal violence.

  • I completed Crisis Advocate Training in sexual assault intervention through the MSU Center for Survivors, supporting survivors of interpersonal and sexual violence.

  • I facilitated psychoeducational groups focused on coping skills and emotional regulation, working with diverse client populations both in person and virtually across the United States and Canada.

The modalities I use include Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Skills, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Mindfulness-Based Interventions, EMDR-Informed and Internal Family Systems (IFS)-Informed approaches, Polyvagal Theory–informed care, Motivational Interviewing, and grounding and body-based strategies.

My top specialties includes:

  • Trauma & Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Trauma can affect the way you think, feel, relate to others, and see yourself. It often leaves people carrying guilt, shame, self-blame, or feeling like they are constantly in survival mode. I work with adults who have experienced childhood trauma, emotional, physical, or sexual abuse, intimate partner violence, human trafficking, military or combat-related trauma, medical trauma, traumatic loss, accidents, and trauma related to high-control groups or harmful religious experiences. Using Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and other trauma-informed approaches, we work together to process what happened, challenge beliefs rooted in guilt and shame, rebuild a sense of safety, and move toward healing. Because trauma affects both the mind and body, I also incorporate grounding, mindfulness, and body-based strategies to help you feel more present, regulated, and connected.

  • Anxiety, OCD & Emotional Regulation Anxiety and OCD can leave you feeling trapped in cycles of worry, intrusive thoughts, perfectionism, avoidance, or compulsive behaviors. Together, we'll identify these patterns and develop practical tools to help you respond differently. Using CBT, Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), mindfulness, and emotional regulation strategies, I help clients build confidence, increase flexibility, and reconnect with the parts of life that matter most. My goal isn't to eliminate difficult emotions, but to help you understand them, respond to them effectively, and feel more in control of your life.

  • ADHD and it’s co-occurring issues: ADHD affects far more than attention. It can show up as difficulty with organization, focus, follow-through, time management, and emotional regulation — and for many adults, years of struggling with these challenges leads to harsh self-criticism, shame, and feeling like you're constantly falling short. I help adults navigating ADHD-related concerns understand how their brain works, quiet the inner critic, and develop practical, sustainable strategies that work with your strengths — not against them. Together, we'll address the everyday challenges of ADHD while also working through the anxiety, overwhelm, and self-esteem struggles that so often come with it, so you can feel more capable, confident, and in control of your life.

  • Life Transitions, Perinatal Mental Health & Identity Major life changes can bring uncertainty, stress, and questions about who you are and where you're headed. Whether you're starting or finishing post-secondary school, changing careers, becoming a parent, exploring your identity, or adjusting to a new stage of life, therapy can help you navigate these transitions with greater confidence. I have a special interest in perinatal mental health, supporting individuals experiencing postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, and the emotional challenges that can arise during pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood. My experience contributing to a nationwide postpartum depression prevention study has strengthened my understanding of this stage of life. I also support clients exploring identity, relationships, body image, self-esteem, and self-acceptance in a safe and inclusive environment.

I am under the supervision of Shiyue Qin, LISW-S, I.2102709-SUPV.
