Tiel Wilczynski, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and Licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT, ATR), LGBTQ+ affirming therapist for trauma, autism, ADHD, and anxiety at Mind Trek Counseling in Cleveland Heights, Ohio

Hi, my name is Tiel, and welcome to Mind Trek Counseling! You deserve wellness and healing. Whatever brought you here, reaching out is a step toward both, and I'm glad you've taken it.

I have worked in the mental health field since 2009, providing individual, couple, group, and family therapy to children, teens, adults, and older adults. My goal is to empower you to overcome hardship, persevere, and build resilience. I have supported clients through trauma, addiction, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, grief and loss, legal involvement, disabilities, and neurodevelopmental and neurocognitive disorders, including autism and ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence. I am an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist, and clients of every identity can bring their whole selves into our work.

I am both a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and a Licensed Professional Art Therapist, one of a small number of clinicians in Ohio holding both licenses. That means our work together can be talk-based, art-based, or any blend of the two. No art experience is needed. Art therapy simply offers another language for the things that are hard to say out loud, and a safe space for free expression.

My approach is eclectic and person-centered: I tailor therapy to your needs rather than fitting you into a single method, and I am a strong advocate for every client I serve.

My Background

I earned a dual Master of Arts in Art Therapy and Counseling from Ursuline College and a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with a minor in Fine Art, from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. I am a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and a Licensed Professional Art Therapist (LPAT) in Ohio, and a Registered Art Therapist (ATR) credentialed by the Art Therapy Credentials Board.

My clinical experience spans private practice, community behavioral health, and crisis work. I have provided counseling and art therapy to children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families with a wide range of behavioral health and substance use concerns, including co-occurring disorders. I have completed diagnostic and biopsychosocial assessments, crisis intervention and safety planning, and emergency evaluation for clients in urgent need, and I helped pioneer telehealth counseling services during the pandemic, expanding access to care for clients who could not reach an office.

My training draws from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), trauma-focused approaches, expressive arts, Gestalt, humanistic, Jungian, and person-centered methods, along with culturally sensitive and multicultural practice. I am also certified in Psychological First Aid by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network.

How can I help?

Therapy with me is collaborative and moves at your pace. Whether you're a parent seeking help for your child, an adult working through trauma or anxiety, or an older adult navigating loss and life changes, we will build the skills and resilience that fit your life.

I see clients in person in Cleveland Heights and via secure telehealth anywhere in Ohio, whether you're in Cleveland, Columbus, or Cincinnati, or in a smaller community like Akron, Canton, Dayton, Toledo, Youngstown, Mentor, or Lorain, where finding a licensed art therapist or trauma specialist nearby can be difficult. Years of providing virtual care have taught me how to make telehealth genuinely engaging, including art therapy done remotely; I'll even help you get comfortable with the technology.

My top specialties are My top specialties are Art Therapy, Autism, ADHD & Neurodivergence, Trauma & PTSD, Anxiety, & LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy.

  • Art Therapy for Kids, Teens, & Adults

As a Licensed Professional Art Therapist and Registered Art Therapist, I offer something few practices can: true, credentialed art therapy. Art gives us another way in when words fall short, for a child who can't yet name what happened, a teen who shuts down in talk therapy, or an adult whose trauma lives somewhere underneath language.

No artistic skill is required, and no prior experience is needed. The point is never the product, always the process: externalizing what you carry, creating enough distance to look at it safely, and letting your nervous system settle through making. Art therapy works in person and, with some creativity, over telehealth too. It can stand alone or weave into talk-based counseling, whichever serves you best.

  • Autism, ADHD & Neurodivergence

Much of my career has been spent alongside neurodivergent clients: autistic children and adults, people with ADHD, and individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, often with anxiety, depression, or trauma layered on top. I see neurodivergence across the whole lifespan, including the adults and older adults who went unrecognized for decades and are only now piecing together why life has felt harder than it looked from the outside.

Sessions with me tend to be concrete and sensory-aware. Art materials give restless hands something to do while we talk, turn abstract feelings into something you can point at, and offer a way to communicate that doesn't depend on eye contact or finding the right words on demand. For ADHD specifically, we treat your attention as a system to be understood rather than a character flaw to be fixed: externalizing plans and routines into visual form, finding where your energy actually goes, and retiring the inner critic that years of missed deadlines installed. Families are welcome in this work; often the most powerful change is helping the people around you understand what support really looks like.

  • Trauma & PTSD

One of the cruelest things about trauma is that it often refuses to be told. The memories arrive as images, sensations, and reactions long before they arrive as words, which is exactly why a purely talk-based approach can feel impossible. As both a clinical counselor and a licensed art therapist, I can meet trauma in the language it actually speaks: we might map a memory in color before we ever discuss it, contain it inside an image so it stops spilling into your week, or simply let your hands work while the hardest parts stay silent.

I spent years doing crisis intervention, emergency evaluation, and safety planning in community and inpatient settings. That history means very little rattles me, and I've learned to recognize when someone needs grounding before processing, and steadiness before anything else. There is no timeline here and no pressure to retell what happened. We go only as far as is useful, and you decide what useful means.

  • Anxiety

Some anxious minds analyze their anxiety brilliantly and feel no better for it. Talking about worry can become another place for worry to live. So while I use CBT and DBT skills where they help, I often start somewhere quieter: on paper. Drawing the worry gives it a shape and a size, and a thing with a shape and a size is something you can set down. Repetitive art processes double as regulation, settling the nervous system in the same way breathwork does, but with something to show for it afterward.

From there we work outward: what sets your anxiety off, what it's protecting, what it costs you, and which skills loosen its grip in real situations, whether that's a child's school refusal, a college student's panic before exams, or an older adult lying awake at 3 a.m. The measure of progress isn't a quiet mind; it's a life that's no longer organized around avoiding things.

  • LGBTQ+ Affirming Therapy

Everyone deserves a therapist with whom they can be fully themselves. I provide an affirming, culturally sensitive space for LGBTQ+ clients of all ages, whether you're exploring identity, navigating coming out, coping with stigma or family tension, or simply want a therapist who won't treat who you are as the problem. You won't have to educate me about your community, and you'll never need to filter yourself to be understood. For many clients, creative expression also offers a powerful way to explore identity on their own terms, and my art therapy training makes room for exactly that.
